The Strutter

One morning the strutter proudly led,
them meekly pedestrians jostling behind
while the traffic light was on red
the strutter was of a different mind

He thought he had it easy today
so carefully carefree was his gait
his cane sprightly to his index did sway
mocking them that behind the lines did wait

The strutter that day did proudly strut
his coat and boots nonchalantly in place
while the big green monster and wily phutphut
spluttered and fumed impatiently at base

Smiling knowingly on his own
beneath a flea-ridden beard and striped cap
today his fortunes must've grown
the beggar must've tricked today's trap
